# Tap to Pay

Tap to Pay is a feature of the [Paybyrd Dashboard app](/get-started/start-building#dashboard-app) that lets you accept contactless card payments directly on your Android phone. The phone's own NFC antenna reads the card, so no separate terminal or card reader is needed.

## Requirements

| **Requirement** | **Details** |
| - | - |
| Android version | Android 10 or later for consumer phones (Samsung, Motorola, and similar). Android 8 or later for enterprise devices (Sunmi, Zebra, iMin, Point Mobile, and similar). Android 12 or later is recommended. |
| NFC | Built-in hardware NFC (`android.hardware.nfc`). External adapters or readers aren't supported. |
| Security patch | The device's Android security patch must be less than 12 months old. |
| Processor | 64-bit ARM v8 or later. |
| Google Mobile Services | The device must be GMS-certified with GMS enabled. Recent Huawei devices without Google services, for example, aren't supported. |
| Screen | Single-screen devices only. Foldable and dual-screen devices aren't supported. |
| Internet | A stable connection over Wi-Fi or mobile data. |

<Info>Tap to Pay is not enabled by default. To activate it for your account, contact [Paybyrd Support](mailto:help@paybyrd.com).</Info>

## How it works

Open Tap to Pay in the Dashboard app, enter the amount, and ask the customer to tap their contactless card, phone, or wearable against the back of your device.

    A[Open Tap to Pay in the Dashboard app] --> B[Enter the amount]
    B --> C[Customer taps their card or device]
    C --> D{Result}
    D -->|Approved| E[Receipt sent to customer]
    D -->|Declined or canceled| F[Try again or use another payment method]
    D -->|Still confirming| G[App confirms automatically once ready]
    G --> D
```
If the connection drops mid-payment, the app confirms the result automatically once it reconnects. You do not need to retry the charge.
## Refunds
To refund a Tap to Pay transaction, ask the customer to tap their card again. Like the original payment, a refund is card-present and requires the physical card or device.
